M.A. Studies

 

There are currently four MA programs in the department:

 

  1. Exam track MA in two years (B track without a thesis). The students of this track are required to take 36 credits of advanced courses, and to take a final exam.
  1. Exam track MA in one calendar year (B track without a thesis, beginning from 2017-2018). The students of this track are required to take 36 credits of advanced courses in a constructed program, and to take a final exam. The studies in this track take place once a week for three semesters (students who do not come from the field of Middle Eastern studies must take two online introductory courses according to the decision of the department’s committee for advanced studies).
  1. Research track MA with a thesis in three years (research A track). Track A students are required to take 32 credits of advanced courses (not including languages) and to write a final research paper (thesis).
  1. International program in English (starting from the year- 2019-2020).

 

Courses specification:

Track A (with thesis)- 32 credits, not including languages, according to the following specification:

5          Seminars / training courses - 4 credits each (out of which 2 are seminars, and 3 are training courses)

1          Historiography training (mandatory course) (4 credits)

1          Seminar for writing MA papers (mandatory course) (4 credits)

2          Elective courses outside the department (level 3 to 5) (8 credits)

1          Submitting a final research paper (thesis)


Track B (without thesis)- 36 credits, not including languages, according to the following specification:

6          Seminars / training courses - 4 credits each (out of which 3 are seminars, and 3 are training courses)

1          Historiography training (mandatory course) (4 credits)

2          Elective courses outside the department (level 3 to 5) (8 credits)

1          Final exam

 

Miscellaneous

  • The usual days of study for MA are Tuesday and Friday, winter semester and spring semester. The usual duration of studies is two years + a year for writing a thesis, in case the research track is chosen.
  • Starting from 2017-2018, students may choose to take track B without thesis in one long day a week throughout the year (three consecutive semesters: winter, spring, summer), studying all day from 8 in the morning through 8 in the evening.
  • The international track will be launched in 2019-2020 and will offer studies in English. This program will be available for either the thesis or exam track.
