While studying Middle Eastern history at Tel Aviv University, during which I took extensive Arabic, I realized that my mission is to work with and in the Arabic language. During my BA and MA I edited a website called “A Different Angle” where we posted weekly articles by Arab liberal columnists and videos from the Arab media translated to Hebrew. Alongside this, I worked with some of the most prominent translators from Arabic from whom I learned the art of translation and became acquainted with the challenge of poetry translation. Only later I mustered courage to experiment with translating Arabic prose and novels. For a few years I had the privilege to teach in the program for Arabic translation studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and to teach Arabic in several places. I currently teach at the University of Haifa, Ben-Gurion University and the Hebrew University and write about Iraq and Middle Eastern minorities for the Forum for Regional Thinking.
