Marwa Khatib

I have a double major BA graduate in Political Science and Middle Eastern and Islamic studies from the University of Haifa, and I’m currently an MA student in Middle Eastern Studies and Islam at the same university. Also, I have studied Islamic law, and I’m working as a translator from Hebrew to Arabic, and also as the COO at the “Tamkeen Foundation”, which seeks to develop Palestinian women in various fields, and is based in Spain. My area of interest is Islamic thought and history, and the position of the Muslim women in it. Therefore, my research, under the supervision of Dr. Uriel Simonson and Dr. Ido Shahar, focuses on monitoring the social agency of the ṣaḥābiyyāt (the Prophet’s women companions) in Islamic literature and its three genres: Ḥadīt̲h̲, Ṭabaḳāt and Tarīkh. , over the ninth – fifteenth centuries. The research tries to identify differences, exaggerations, or even silences regarding female social agency and compare the first and last texts. Finally, my research is the first step in the process of discussing, framing and analyzing the place and role of Muslim women in Islamic history and thought, in order to deal with the dilemmas, challenges and obstacles they live in today.
