I am a cultural historian of the Middle East. I hold a PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Haifa after returning from a year at the University of Basel, where I was a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (ESKAS) fellow. My research and teaching interests include the cultural and social history of modern Turkey and its roots in the late Ottoman Empire; the place of Islam in modern Turkey; late Ottoman Palestine; nationalism and nation building processes in the Middle East; and memory studies.
